Seamus Burke dominates at Sandblast Rally

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Cheraw, SC February 18, 2006

This weekend Seamus Burke and brought home a fifth consecutive win at Sandblast Rally. Coming off the last stage, Burke and co-driver Brian Sharkey with their Mitsubishi Evo lead by almost two minutes over his closest competitor, Jeremy Drislane. Drislane, who put in an excellent performance, started fast and remained at full throttle to ultimately best Charles Sherrill who took third place.

Amid the wash of Evos and WRXs, there were crowd favorites Robert Cutler in his screaming yellow Porsche 911. Greg Healey brought out a classic Datsun 280Z, and Mike Hall with a Mitsubishi Mighty Max truck was able to provide the “European moment” when he needed ten people to push him out of trouble, right at a spectator area.

New to the sport of rally, Brian Street put his Baja 1000 experience to use and piloted his Toyota Celica through the deep sand. Robert Maunz and Mark Sackett, in true grassroots style, entered a Ford Escort GT that they built in their backyard.

Sandblast Rally, sanctioned by NASA Rally Sport, took place in the towns of Cheraw and Patrick of South Carolina. Both towns played host to the two-day event and shared true Southern hospitality with rally competitors and fans alike. Local hotels and restaurants were filled with a record number of enthusiasts coming from hundreds of miles away to spectate the stages.
