Detota and Warren Fly to an amazing 2nd Place Finish at the Empire State Performance Rally

The newly unveiled Ruge’s Subaru rally car driven by Erika Detota and Mary Warren finished on the podium at the countries only all tarmac rally. The two were the talk of the weekend at the NASA Rally Sport, Empire State Performance Rally, as the only female driver and all woman team. The duo finished an impressive 2nd place overall in the two wheel drive class against a field of 18 other teams. The scene was exciting to witness women achieving such competitive level in automotive racing.

Putting in solid times Saturday set the team to start Sunday with a goal to improve on their times. “We were doing our best to shave every second we could, which ended up sending us over a big jump super fast” said Warren. Their car launched at a clocked speed of 105 MPH and caught more air than any other team. Photographers were at the location to document the event, and even Detota was surprised when she saw the pictures. “It was not the most graceful landing, the car was already showing signs of transmission failure before [the jump], so I figured I would just hit it as fast as we could” she says “I didn't realize it would be that big!”

All of the teams hard work over the winter preparing a higher spec motor for car paid off well at the rally, with the upgrades giving the car an estimated 60 more horsepower. “It was exciting to have a new motor in the car for ESPR [Empire State Performance Rally]. It is my home event that I haven’t missed since I started racing in 2010. Having a good result for my sponsors with all my friends cheering was awesome” says Detota.

This rally was the first time Detota and Warren had the chance to race together and they proved to be great team. The two plans to compete together in the next NASA Rally sport gravel event, Rally West Virginia in July.
