Press Release
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Cary, NC October 9 2005
Anders Green will be assuming ownership and organization of the Sandhills Sandblast Rally, a 65-mile-long automobile event based in Cheraw, South Carolina.
The Sandblast Rally has been an annual feature of the Sandhills area since 2001. The event itself is even older, having an inaugural run in the early 1990s. The event draws some of the premier rally talent on the East Coast, and even attracts competitors from as far away as Ireland. Approximately forty to sixty cars will start the next race, scheduled for February 18, 2006.
Green has experience with this event at almost every level. He has competed in the event three times, placing as high as first in class and 14th overall. On the organizing side, he has been a steward of the event, worked in scoring, worked on the route book, and has performed the final safety check as driver of the Zero Car, the course-opening car.
Charles Sherrill, former organizer, is looking west from his home in Hickory, North Carolina, and planning to explore roads there. Speaking of the Sandblast ownership transfer, Sherrill said, “The reason for this decision is to allow me to concentrate on organizing an event in the mountains of North Carolina near the Boone and Blowing Rock area. Anders has competed, crewed, pre-checked the route book and has had stewardship duties for the event in the past. I am totally confident in his ability to make this transition as seamless as possible.” Regarding the future of the event, Sherrill is optimistic. “With the prospect of new roads becoming available in 2007, the rally has great potential for growth.”
Sandblast Rally 2006 will be familiar to those returning to the event. Says Green, “I plan on making some incremental improvements, trying to get a little more information out there for the spectators. Mostly I’ll be building on the excellent groundwork that Charles set in place for me. He has formed some really great working relationships between the event and the city of Cheraw.”
Sandblast Rally 2006 is the first event of the rallying season for the Eastern States Rally Championship sanctioned by NASA RallySport. More information on the rally can be found on the web at SandblastRally.com.
