Long Beach, California (September 24th, 2015)
The stage is set for the 2015 NASA National Rally Championship, to be held this year at the Prescott Rally in beautiful Prescott Arizona on October 2nd-3rd. A winner-take-all championship, the NNRC selects drivers from the East (Atlantic Rally Cup) and West (Pacific Rally Cup) who have demonstrated their speed and skill by getting on the podium, winning a Power Stage, or getting into the top 10 in region points at events this season. The qualifiers list will be made complete by selecting the final two Wild Card drivers. Each NASA Rally Sport director, in the Western part of the country, Kristopher Marciniak, and for the Eastern part, Anders Green, chooses a racer who they believe has the capability to take the crown but for some reason didn't otherwise qualify.
"The Gorman Rally had a surprise last minute entry from a 2WD driver who showed me that he had what it takes by setting top times on many of the stages. I was also impressed, when electrical issues cropped up and the team asked to move themselves to the back and not interfere with the battles going on mid-pack," said Kristopher Marciniak. "Even with those few stages lost, Brent Lee managed a 4th place in 2WD at Gorman and is my 2015 Wild Card pick!"
Anders Green added, "What I look for in a Wild Card choice is someone who has shown great speed at NASA Rally Sport events, but who has just missed out on qualifying. Hao Yuan competed in both the High Desert Trails in the West where he put down hot times and at Magnum Opus Rally in the East, where he was leading the rally before a small mechanical failure took him out. That's exactly the kind of talent that earned him my Wild Card pick."
Prescott Rally will be an great showdown for the NASA National Rally Championship with many teams poised to take the 2015 title. More teams than ever are crossing the country to converge on Prescott and take their shot at being named the National Champion! The stages consist of fast and flowing wide roads that lead up to technical sections in and around the scenic town of Jerome. Along with the NNRC, the Pacific Rally Cup and local California Rally Series championships will also be decided.
