Press Release
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Long Beach, CA (October 24th, 2016)
The 2016 NASA National Rally Championship kicks off this weekend at the Empire State Performance Rally in scenic Narrowsburg, New York. A winner-take-all championship, the NNRC selects drivers from the East (Atlantic Rally Cup) and West (Pacific Rally Cup) who have demonstrated their speed and skill by getting on the podium, winning a Power Stage, or getting into the top 10 in region points at events this season. The qualifiers list will be made complete by selecting the final two Wild Card drivers. Each NASA Rally Sport director, in the Western part of the country, Kristopher Marciniak, and for the Eastern part, Anders Green, chooses a racer who they believe has the capability to take the crown but for some reason didn't otherwise qualify.
"We both identified drivers that have shown some real speed. Both of these gentlemen were setting top 10 times when a problem forced them off the stages at past events," said Kristopher Marciniak. "For my pick, I chose Robert Dawson, who was very quick at this year's Black River Stages in his VW. I hope he can find that speed again to battle for the 2WD national title this weekend!"
Anders Green added, "For mine, I chose Duncker Felix, an experienced driver in AWD that had some hard luck at the last two Sandblast Rallies. In 2014 he set the 2nd fastest time on Stage 1, and we'll look for some of that speed at ESPR!"
Good luck to the two Wild Card Picks: Robert Dawson, and Duncker Felix
Empire State Performance Rally will be a great showdown for the NASA National Rally Championship with many teams poised to take the 2016 title. NASA Rally Sport, the largest rally sanctioning body of the US, focuses on competitor fun and providing support for rally organizers. Providing tools, technology, and systems to the organizers, racers, and fans to increase their enjoyment of rally is a core mission of NASA Rally Sport. Making sure that rally remains a sustainable and affordable passion for the drivers and organizers while building the family of racers and volunteers that make rally happen goes hand in hand with that mission.
